Dog daycare workers are supposed to engage with, protect, and take care of the animals in their care. Sadly, 23-year-old Jarrod Dillman did just the opposite to an innocent dog for which he was responsible.

Dillman was working in Buffalo, New York, as a dog daycare attendant at a business called Pawprints by Penny & Company, which provides services including daycare, grooming, boarding, and obedience. While in his care, a three-year-old Havanese mix named Alessio was killed.

Dillman told authorities he used a leash to throw the dog against a wall and then kicked the dog while wearing boots. As a result of the injuries, Alessio died from blunt force trauma to the body.

District Attorney John Flynn reports that video of the incident helped them in this case. Flynn shared, “To say his conduct is despicable is an understatement.”

When he is sentenced in January, Dillman faces up to two years in prison. Our condolences go out to Alessio’s family.
